Default What is the most power a convertible frame can safely handle?

I have a 91 RS convertible that I want to turn into a street rod. It currently has a 305 TBI making somewhere around 170hp[:@], a 700R4, and non-posi rear end[:@][:@].
What is the most powerful motor I can put in since it's a convertible frame? Is there a limit before I have to consider reinforcing it somehow? I've been looking at some used LT1's and LS1's in my area, but I've also been thinking about going with a carb'd crate motor that's more powerful, something around 450-500hp, or possibly even more after nitrous...

just do it, man. if something breaks, then that was too much. theoretically, convertibles chassis are built more rigid to compensate for the lack of roof. I don't have anything to base that on, but that's what I've been told.

personally, i'd put a cage in the car. build the cage so that it doesn't interfere with the operation of the top. converts with cages are sexy to me.

I also have a vert that I would like to add a little extra power to I would also like to install a six point cage. I would love to see some detailed pictures of a cage in a vert that does not interfere with the top so if any has seen or done this and has pictures please post them.
