im looking at a 1986 camaro right now. the body work is done and it has been freshly painted. has 5speed trans, clutch, flywheel, bellhousing etc, just needs an engine. it was origianlly a v8. guy wants $750.

my question is, what size engine can i fit in this? i want the biggest i can use with a stock trans. no racing or drag for it, just want it to be fast for the road. i was thinking about buying a used one from a same model camaro and rebuilding it, but i was wondering if i can use an even larger engine and rebuild that instead? thanks!

 

With the stock transmission you will only be able to put a 305 in it safely. While I have seen a 350 in one, it shreded it pretty quick. The T5 Tranny isnt a very strong one by any means. Thats why you never see an Iroc 5 speed with a 350 stock. T5 couldnt handle it.
