Turning an 86 IROC into a 454 drag car
Hello, I just bought a 454 for my 86 IROC and am putting it in over the winter and its a pretty decent size job. Were gonna get a turbo running and it and with out setup probably pushing 500-600 HP roughly. What would you guys recommend doing for reinforcing the frame. What kind of springs and all that good stuff. I'm just an engine guy and am new to drag racing. I'm just looking for some advice or some stuff to read up on. Any info/ recomended parts is highly appriceated.
Thanks,
Kevin

I'm not sure who makes the best subframe connectors, I was hoping to find out the same thing for my '83. I do know that a good roll cage will stiffin' up the car big time. You'll have to have one for track-drag racing anyway. I know the rules at our track say if you're faster than 11.5 sec. 1/4, you have to have at least a roll bar. If you're faster than 11 sec, you have to have a roll cage. I'm sure you'll have no problem breaking into the 10s with a turbocharged 454.
I would like to find out about the subframe connectors also though.

yea, like i replied to the other post, ive heard good things about UMI's connectors and they seem to be reasonably priced. but a roll cage will give you a LOT of extra help. i may put one into my car just for that help, plus i think it gives the car a kinda mean look.

i havent bought one yet. but i mean jeggs has whole kits for this car for 150 to like, 300. just depends on how many points you want. i was lookin at like a 6 point for right about 200. IDK how strong they are though.
