I don't care how fantastic You think Your ear is, z28pete and jd1969 are correct. Sequential fire commonly started with the LT1. You may be hearing a pop as You call it, but it's not individual injectors firing sequentially.

z28pete If you are ever next to a tpi that is running just listen to the injectors pop. You can hear them pop separately. You really need to read up injection. Find out why they put the injectors right above the intake valve and why a clean and balanced [each injector in a set of 8 releases the same amount fuel in the proper spray pattern to atomize the fuel for the best explosion]. The way you say it works would put a puddle of fuel on top of the valves. Just what part of engine operation do you think the computer does? And why do you think they moved the injectors from the center of the engine to putting them right above the valves.
Not fanning any flame battles, but shouldn't it be burn instead of explosion?

You are absolutely correct, DFENS. On a properly running engine the F/A mixture starts burning by the spark plug, and the flame front progresses evenly throughout the combustion chamber. If the mixture explodes all at once (detonates), as sometimes happens, it can result in broken parts.
