Turbo 400's are 3 speeds, you aren't going to get as good of mileage as you would with a 700. If you buy a mildly build 700, they're a stout transmission and will last a good long while. A 400 isn't necessarily a stronger or better transmission, it just has one less gear.

A th400 is just a stronger trans than a th350. The th400 came in larger vehicles, like cadillacs, suburbans, etc.

The 400 was put behind higher output V8. All the GM vehicles used them, not just Cadillac. There is a stronger 350 also. Might be why your truck one last so long.
Maybe you just get crap trannys. Stop going to Aamco!

Jeep also used the th400 trans in their FSJs, back when AMC owned them. My Cherokee was odd, it had an AMC engine, TH400 trans, and Chrysler front and rear end. The TH400 was used because FSJ's are very heavy, the 360 and 401 V8's were everything but high output. I think my 360 made about 250 horse, maybe.
