Default t56 transmission?

So tax season was nice to me and im interested in swapping out my 350 for a 427 crate motor. now i feel its silly to leave the stock trans only to have to change it later after its blown out, so my question is will a t56 fit nicely with my 84 camaro and to the 427? i looked on ebay and seen a few listings from newer vehicles and im not sure if different years are different fits? thanks for the help all... lots of money and would like to minimize my problems. im really excited to get this car some serious power.

You can do it, it'll take some fab work, but nothing too hard. Search Google on t-56 swaps on 3rd gen Camaros. Bound to be plenty.

Curious though, what are you going to do about the 7.5" rear? She don't take kindly to big power and clutch dumps.

Stock T56 is not going to hold up to a 427 if you get the car to hook up. She is going to need some upgrades.

427 crate motor and T56 from a tax check? Wow you need to talk to your account about letting uncle Sam use your money interest free for a year.

come on now..... its not all from a tax refund lol. but i have been saving for some time to do all this at one shot cause i know that putting a motor in this strong will eventually blow the stock transmission. and my rearend is in pretty rough shape and have looked into a few places that rebuilt 12 bolt rears. i have been doing some searching and there is a site, Hawks, that specializes in camaro parts which im sure your all aware of. Gorn, if the T56 wont hold up what would you suggest thats out there?

A stock T-56 will not hold up the only stock trans I know of is the tranzilla that was put in the higher end vetts. That is 5K trans. The T56 can be built to handle the torque. With the 427 I suspect you are looking a near 500 Ft lbs of torques. That is a 15-20K drive line.

The Hurst T-56 Magnum is good for 700 ft-lbs. Price tag is only $2895 before shipping. I'd buy that if you were die hard on having a manual. You got a few options with that too since they a few with different gear ratios.

Thanks for the input guys. I have read that it is a good way to beef up a t56 which I think maybe the way I go. I have to look around for a reputable guy that I can trust to do it. I have seen on a few other posts and websites that for the t56 to fit easy with minimal fabricating I should try to stick with a trans from a 93-97 camaro? I guess in later years they changed the dimensions up.

Ya, the LS1 in 98 was a complete redo. Also you have to be carful with the 93's they played with the gear ratio's which made them weaker then their older brothers. The 94-97 are MN6 model while the 93's could M28's or M29's.

There is some info in my 93 build thread linked in my sig.

Unless you're going with 4.10 or lower rear gears, I don't see the point or need for a 6 speed. A TKO 600 (600 ft lb torque rating) 5 speed would be another consideration. If it were me, I'd go with some nice low gears in the rear, whether you go with a 5 or 6 speed. Here are some conversion articles: https://camaroforums.com/forum/82-92...ion-how-65741/

Well I wasn't planning on going higher than 3.73 maybe a little higher. I figured 4.11 with a six speed would be just to much. If a TKO 600 is another alternative than I will def see whats out there and if its good for what I'm looking at. Thanks so much for the input. . . This is why I posted this thread.
