Hey guys, does anyone know of any tricks one can use to stop a squeaking serpintine belt? belt dressing works for awhile then it starts again. is there anything else to try or just get a new one?

 

Did you ever get it wet with anti-freeze? That can give you a repeat squeaker. You can remove it and clean both sides with brake cleaner and a scrub brush. And clean all the pulleys too. But if it still comes back, you might want to get a new belt. I like using the Goodyear Gatorback belts because the cross-cuts in the ribs makes for less of a tendency to squeak. Actually, I've never had a noisy Gatorback.

 

hey man, i tried the brake cleaner trick, i saturated a rag with it and with it running wrapped the rag around it and cleaned it good, then gave it a light shot shot of belt dressing. so far so good.

 

That noise is trying to tell you something, replace it....

 

is ur tensioner good?? mine did the same and found that out.

 

no, its on the iroc and it doesnt have a tensioner you use the alternator to get tension on the serpintine belt, the ac and power steering use v-belts.

no worries my man, i just went ahead and got a new goodyear gatorback. problem solved.

 

The best thing I found to clean antifreeze coated parts is hot water followed by hot soapy water and then a hot water rinse. Works great and is cheap.

 

You can also put them in the diswasher, but avoid the drying cycle. LOL
