Default Some more head questions

I just got some heads, casting 462624 they are 1.72 intake and 1.50 ex valves and are 76cc chambers, one head has a burnt valve and the head gasket looks burnt like it leaked between the cylinders on same spot as burnt valve, can i just change the valve out as these heads were in great shape before this happened and arent in need of machine except maybe some decking if they are warped.

Junk them, not worth the money you will put into them....Not performance heads.

well my finanial situation means i either replace the valve and use these or use the 305 swirl heads i have with 58cc chambers 1.84 and 1.5 valves that are in good working order, my eventual plans are vortec heads but cant afford it anytime soon. what would offer better performance right now, large chamber small valves and better flowing runners, or the small chamber bigger vlaves and more restrictive flowing 305, the car will have a edelbrock performer manifold, 600-750 cfm carb, and i am still looking for a good match for a cam for the manifold and carb, any tips, im on a tight budget.

As stated in your other post, I think you really need to think about what you want out of that car. Edelbrock intake with bad heads aren't going to give you what you want. You just need to save and get the right head with the right intake, cam, carb, etc. Have you checked the top end yet? Or better yet, the bottom since water made its way into the motor.

use the heads that require the least amount of $. save, learn and plan. i have a edelbrock performer 2104 that i dont plan on using. needs cleaning. 50 bucks u pay shipping. its good for the 87 to 95 sbc.

i am using another motor, it was a freebie, buddy burnt a valve and blew the head gasket so he put the 400 back in his truck, and this motor has been sitting for 6 months, it has less than a 1000 miles and needs no machining, it had a radical cam and he said it made 385 hp, but i dont know the specs on the cam all he could say is it was a nascar cam so i guess it was designed for high rpm, so let me put it this way what cam would you guys suggest for vortech heads, performer manifold (another freebie), 1 5/8 full length headers, not sure on mufflers yet and 750 holley, looking for the most power out of this combo, this wont be a high rever, just a occasional stoplight race, as for the heads he said he can get me a set of 350 heads with a little port work already done for probably free that are ready to go. and i will use those until i can afford to get vortech heads and have them redone. Thanks
