Some air cleaner and carb questions
I've been searching around, but I still have some questions on a couple things having to do with the carb and air cleaner.
First, I have a crazy idling problem. When my car is warming up, my fast idle is around 1500-2000 rpms, typically without an engine light. My curb idle is at about 750 (was 450, but I managed to get it to go up a bit). A couple weeks ago, I had no issue at all. Fast idle was around 1200, curb was 800, no check engine light. Now I will randomly get a check engine light, and I really can't get the idle speed to change much.
It appears to be a computer controlled Quadrajet, but I am not sure. It is a carbuerated 1984, upgraded to a 350 (was that way when I got it). It still seems to get plenty of power, it just has idling problems. Any insight?
Second thing is I want to change the old snorkel air cleaner to a new open air cleaner, and I was unsure as to what to do with the other 2 lines that go to the airbox. There's a flex hose and also an elbow pipe that are connected to what I believe is the exhaust manifold (I didn't look for very long--it's 3 degrees F outside). Should I connect something to those? Plug them off? Or...?
Lastly, but not least, my car seems to hate the cold. When it is cold and I go to start it up, it won't start unless I sit there and pump the gas. Is that normal? Or is something wrong?
Thanks in advance.

First I think you should find someone who knows about cars to help you,JMO.
If you decide to put open element air cleaner on your car,the small pipe is crankcase breather going into stock air cleaner, should be going into side of air cleaner base and have small filter just inside of base. You can get rid of that but you will have to buy a push in breather to replace where the pipe was attached to valve cover.
The flex hose that goes down to exhaust manifold from bottom of snorkel can just be left off.
The hard start can be if choke is not working or out of adjustment, also when you start the car cold, give the throttle 2 slow pushes to the floor and let off slowly. Just stomping on the throttle does not let the choke mechanism catch sometimes.
