Default Seems fitting, no pun intended

This question is a general v-8 kind. I have a block ID# T0323HC with a casting number of 3858180. It is currently sitting in the passanger seat of my 69 sedan. I was told it was a 350, but the only thing so far I can find tells me its a 327 from a 65 impala. I was going to put it in the Camaro untill I found this out. I know it isnt for a Camaro as the numbers tell me it was made March 23 1965. Thats all I know. I am hoping to find the displacement size as there is no where I can find this info on these forums (I've looked using the search tool). Does anybody have any info or a link I can check. Thanks.

I found more info. The engine is a 327, I found it from www.nastyz28.com. This engine is fine, I will go with another block for the Camaro though. Now onto figuring out the tranny.....

Seriously. Why not? It's still a 4 inch bore. You can rev it higher than a 350, too, since the stroke is a bit shorter.

Thanks for the advise guys. I may actually put it in the Camaro. It came from either a Chevelle or Corvette, with the reputation those 2 cars have theres got to be a good reason that engine was in there, so I will go with it. Its a bare block, not even a cam so I can start from the beginning and build it up however I want....... Any suggestions?

Get a good set of modern heads and camshaft combination, as that will be the basis for your power. Don't bother with any of the old heads unless you are doing a restoral and want to be correct.

Not real worried about a restoral. I was going to do a SS clone but that would cheapen the sport, so I will just to a custom/resto. Nothing real fancy. I would like a bit of a sleeper though. I had a question about wether the cam and other components could be bought at a Camaro shop like, say ricks first gen, even though it was never origionaly meant to be in a camaro and that store has only camaro parts. Is this a case of 'a 327 is a 327 is a 327' or should I go with a different shop? I am also going to want to know about some components, like distributor, heads etc. This will be my first water cooled engine build so I will need some advise from the guys who have done this before. Thanks.

A 327 SBC is a 327 SBC, find a shop with a good rep for small block chevys and ask what they think for what you've got and what you can afford. Does it have a crank in it already, or is it really truly completely bare? 'Cause if there's no crank, you can pretty much make it what you want. 302, 327, 350, 383. Just a different crank (and some machining for the 383, due to the long stroke) Personally, for a block up build, I'd go with the 302 or the 327, since those are pretty rare sizes for an SBC these days, and they can make almost as much power as a 350, while not having as much rotating mass.

Flufy, The car came with three cranks, one still in the box! The only thing the block has on it is the paint (and some dust, maybe a cobweb or two).It was suggested to me at work to get a crate, as it will cost about the same as a build up and sell the block, the guy said he would give me $1000 for it and the 3 speedmuncie. I bought a 5 speed auto for the car (daily driver). Now I guess I have a delimna. what to do what to do...
