Default Need help bad please...

Ok, so I bought an 84 Camaro from my brother. It has an issue and I am out of thoughts on how to get this solved. The owner before my brother pulled the original motor out and put in a 305 with 4bbl. Now comes the issue, they wired in a push button to start along with having the key start. Some times the key does not work and the push button will. Anyways when the motor starts sometimes the voltage light, brake light, and the choke light stay on, and some times they go out. And as I drive it down the road if I hit a bump the ignition buzzer starts to go off again and the lights start to flick on and off, and at times the engine cuts out. So I was thinking of wiring in a switch to bypass the key to turn on the ignition and remove the start from the key and keep it on the push button. But what is the issue with the dash lights and the engine cutting out at times. I have traced all the wires the other person did and re-did the connections and they are good. Can some one help me please. And if you can let me know how to do the toggle switch for the ignition. Thanks much....

Your problems started with a hack job and you want to continue it with another.

To BlackZ87 are you saying it would be easier to by all new wiring harnesses and pull what they hacked out?

Not say a new wiring harness, but at least try to put it back together so everything works. Also forget about the fancy starting buttons ans switches.

sounds like the ignition cylinder is bad. loose contacts inside can cause erronious dash lights to come on and can cause it shut off. replace the ignition switch first and check the wiring in and on the column first. i bet the issue lies in there. does it have the factory steering wheel, or evidence of an alarm system?

Thanks MicroKid, however I found the switch down on the column and the 2 harnesses that attach are tight. I was told to check the switch and that it could have been loose but yet again it is tight to the column. So I am thinking that the cylinder is the problem. I was told that there is nothing attached to the cylinder all it does is push a rod on the column and that makes contact with the switch down below. Any other ideas, I am going to try the cylinder and see what happens. What is the easiest way to get to the switch down below. All I was able to do was get my fingures up in there......
