I took the digital guage cluster out, disassembled it, utilized the shell to fab up a cardboard template, and then transferred that to 1/8" aluminum sheet. I made cardboard circles of the actual guage diameters, used these to set up the autometer guages configuration. I discarded all of the digital instrumentation pieces. I pinned out the factory wiring harness and cut out the wires that I needed, mated them to a different plug connector, and installed the female end of the plug on the new guage console. Here are a couple of pics of the panel.

absolutely beautiful engine. What plug wires are you using? I Need some for my motor that work with headers.
I used Taylor's "409" (10.4mm) wires. I used their spark plug wire separators as well. They are a custom build set, so you can make them work for just the right amount of clearance that you need for your headers. Here is a pic of my setup.

Default It's been a while...

Well at last update, I had the motor installed and most of the supporting details done. For the majority of the time since my last post, the car has been sitting in the driveway getting neglected, due to disgust on my part. I installed the Tremec into the car using what I thought was the proper bellhousing, (11" clutch set-up), and the old mechanical clutch linkage system. After fighting with the install, and winning, I couldn't get the clutch to release all the way, sooo, I modified the clutch fork pivot ball in hopes of gaining the extra travel needed to release the clutch...Denied!!! So, having purchased a McLeod hydraulic throwout bearing some time ago, I decided to install it and use the factory Hydraulic clutch master cylinder. I wasn't aware at the time that the factory system uses a plastic master/slave cylinder combo joined by a plastic line that is purchased as a unit, ready to go. After hours of phone calls, and sevearl trips to dealerships, Napa, Carquest, etc., I face the realization that the only way to get the factory setup is out of the wrecking yard. So, off I went. Got lucky, found a 1990 firebird with the entire driveline in place, so I took the bellhousing, master/slave cylinder, and a clutch interlock switch. Did you know that the factory cars that had the T-5, the bellhousing bolt pattern for the transmission is clocked 17* CCW from centerline? I didn't notice that until I put the Tremec into the car and noticed there were no bolt holes lined up, after I had to order a new bilet flywheel and 10 1/2" clutch set-up to fit under the smaller diameter f-body bellhousing. AAARGGGHHHH!!!! A few days spent under the car and at the welder resulted in some adaptation brackets that should get the job done until I can find an aftermarket bellhousing that will work with the factory hydraulic clutch setup and a Tremec 3550 tranny. The car is 90% done, it's been around the neighborhood, down to the gas station, and hours of static run time. I need to dial in the carb, timing, and vacuum advance, finish the exhaust, and re-install the A-pillar gauge pod. I'll post a couple of pics.
