Default Just got my first 92 Camaro. More Hp needed.

Hello. I just got my first Camaro. Its a 1992 Rs with a 5.0L With a 5spd manual tranny. I love it. I plan on building a nice 350 for it. Over time. lol. Just a few questions before I start Purchasing parts. Its a t.b.i. So do I need to get a 2 bolt main or a 4 bolt main engine block? Im just trying to get approx. 350-400 Hp. out of the motor. How hard will this be to achieve. Can anyone tell me how to achieve this and possably a little parts list? lol. If you can help, thanks!!!!

please clarify

are you trying to get to get to 400HP with the 305 or would that be for the future 350?

What you found out was you bought a 3rd gen, maybe you were told it had a 350 but the initial kick down low isn't enough for you. You've found that minivans are kicking your butt 0-60. Welcome to the 70's/early 80's smog era engine.

It's called what are your goals and even more important, what is your realistic budget.

If just for strip and occasional street use then that's one thing. If the car is more your daily driver and you still "need" that 350-400HP then you need a 350 CID . But, by the time you add in all of the supporting updates needed as well as rebuilding so you have reliability (you do want it to be reliable don't you) then I would suggest starting with more modern technology in the form of at minimum a rebuilt LT1 but better would be a rebuilt LS1 and then you are looking at wiring, computer, fuel delivery changes but you'll have more power and street friendliness.

Another thing which could hamper you are restrictions in your state.

if allowed, slap on some headers, a better exhaust (topic's been beaten to death these past 20 years so use the search function) and change your rear gears and get the car painted and looking good.

Who cares if soccer moms kick your butt with their SUV's and minivans?

I want the horsepower from a 350, not the 305. im not putting money into that. I dont have any emissions in my state. My budget is around 6,000. I wont be driving it too much. Just take it out on a nice day once a week or so

find an LSx or LQ9

why be less street friendly with gen 1 technology when you can get the same or greater power, better fuel economy and drivability? $6k can go quickly but can also get the job done well if you roll up your own sleeves and have the wherewithal. While LSx commands higher dollars you can get the iron version LQ9 for much less.
