hunting for an idle
i have a 92 rs, 305- if and when i can get my car to start it has a bad idle. so for i have new distributor cap and rotor, spark plugs, spark plug wires, iac, and fuel pump. and still haveing trouble with starting the car. and after just tinkering around playing with different vacuum lines, starting fluid, ect. it will have a bad idle. sometimes it will settle down and run fine, but alot of time you will have to hit the throttle as it idles high, and release the throttle as it bobs back down to get it to do this. im thinking bad vacuum line? or intake manifold leaking? or ???? any help? any experiance with this? thanks- rsguy

Has your TBI unit ever been rebuilt? It's not very hard to do, and it may be worth your while if it has a lot of miles on it.
Does the engine act the same whether it's hot or cold? A leaky intake manifold gasket is still a possibility. If it's leaking internally, an external "spray" test won't show it.

the car has 77000 miles on it, although the mileage is low, time can have a bigger effect then mileage. i have not ruled out the intake manifold. and as far as rebuilding the throttle body, no it is not difficult, but i am seeing no cause to do so. i cant get my head around the fact that once i tinker with it for hours it will run perfectly, but as soon as i kill it-it will not start right even after leaving it sit for 1 or 2 minutes. so idk. i ran across a guy who had this same thing and he replaced the o2 sensor and the wires to the MAF and it was fixed. every car is different .. wish me luck

You know, if it was any other type of FI system, the fuel pressure regulator would be another thing to look at.
But yours is built into the TBI unit. Any chance there's crud inside the TBI due to it's age? Possibly.

might be a good thing its not starting. check for weak or no spark when it wont run. could be the coil has a intermitant probem. is the coil on the cap. sometimes the carbon *** that transfers spark to the rotor gets messed up in those distribitors. alos try a little gas in the tb. if it a gas issue it should at least try to start.

it keeps tripping the o2 sensor in the computer, but the o2 is good, it works just fine in another camaro that my buddy has, but when my check engine light comes on it comes up as code 44 so it must be a symptom code and not the cause for the light to come on it says its running lean but it smells rich.
