Default hp from 327? anyone

My recent project has met a snag and I am going to have to get a new engine for the car. The engine in the car is shot. I have a spare block, 327 bored .030 over. I could rebuild this block or buy a complete 350 for a few dollars more. My question is, to you, oh humble engine builders. Can I get the sameor similar numbers from a 327 that I can from a 350? If so what components would you get? The 350 in question is currently for sale and is close, but I dont want to leave the owner hanging waiting for me to answer when he could sell it. I have kind of asked this question before but, it was in other threads and at the ends of those, so I am asking now specific questions. Thanks.

Won't exactly make as much power as a 350 but should be close. You need to wind the 327 tighter to make up for the smaller displacement.

Thats what I am thinking. I know it will rev higher due to the shorter stroke, I am just wondering if there is a upper and lower end combo that will give me the juice that a 350 will.

with some mods you can deffinitely acheive the performance you desire, in 1967 Chevy offered a 327 corvette with 360hp, more than the stock z28 of today thus proving even decades ago a 327 can make horsepower.

In those days they measure horspower in gross horsepower, today's cars use net horsepower measurements, The 360 gross is about 255-270 net, which is still pretty good for a 327.

So I will need a 350 to get the horsepowerI want (300 to 350 would be nice)unless I rev super high with a 327?

Never tried it but I would think a set of vortec heads/manifold and a moderate cam would be a good combo, I also think that each engine built about the same would be fairly close in hp certionally within the 50 hp spread you are giving. The 327 is a bit more unique than the 350 at least in my opinion.

Probably before your days, but back then factories used to rate the engines in gross HP, that was a naked engine with headers, intake horn, and absolutely no accessories, which meant no water pump, no alternator, no fan, spark advance optimized manually, and no mufflers. In the mid 70s they started rating engines in net Hp, which meant they had to have all the accessories, air filters, mufflers and cats, just like the engine was to be equipped when installed in the car. This caused the same engine to be rated 25% to 30% less than it used to.
