Buddy of mine just picked up an 1986 with the same thing that baffled me. It has on the dash the I-roc/Z28 thing, I-roc on the doors and Z28 on the rear and front fender parts. It's weird. He is planning to run his vin and his engine code, since it's a 5.7 but yet it looks almost stock.

Hi, well to answer your question, unfortunatly in 1984 Chev didn't have IROC-Z Camaro's as an option. The IROC-Z option started in 1985 (RPO code: B4Z) which means in your case someone changed the dash emblem. In 1985, you had the option to upgrade the Z-28 to the Z-28 IROC, IROC is short for International Racing Of Champions, which was the name of a auto racing competion organization just like NASCAR is. The easiest way to tell the difference is to open the hood, IROC's came with a Tune Ported Injection V-8 option, Z-28's only had the Throttle Body Injection V-8 Option.
