Default got a question about 87 IROC

i have a question pertaining to an 87 Iroc im interested in aquiring.

over the weekend i was crusing down the road and saw a camaro sitting under a couple pine trees. i drove by a couple times till i decided to stop and ask if they were interested in selling it. they said they were and after that i went to go check the car out. body is in spectacular condition, except for mildew from the T-tops leaking, everything else was perfect. body was in excellent condition except for a small spot of rust on the passenger quarter panels and small ding in the hood, and the windshield needs replaced. when i got to looking under the hood, the sticker on the hood and the GFX on each side indicated that the camaro is a 5.7l TPI IROC-Z. i asked them what the mileage was and they told me it had 73k original miles but hasnt been started in a long time. so im trying to aquire the car.

my question is : how rare are the 5.7L TPI IROC-Z's? this is the first 5.7L TPI IROC that ive seen and just wandering how rare they are and if the mileage 73k is accurate, what the value is of the 87 5.7L TPI IROC. thanks guys

Make sure you check the VIN first of all to make sure it is really a 5.7. If the eighth digit is an "F" it's not really a 5.7. Should be an "8." You can also check the RPO codes in the center console for "B2L" which identifies a stock 350.

As far as rarity, well, someone else will know.

No Rare Camaros in my opinion....350 TPI was available only in the IROC-Z28 and 12,105 of these RPO B2l engine ($1045) options were produced. So guess how many had this engine in 1987?? According to some sellers every IROC-Z28 had 350 TPI in it.

I couldn't guess on value. I would say any rust needs to be dealt with carefully though and that can be very pricey. 2 brand new legit full GM panels will run you about $800, so keep that in mind if thats what will be needed. As far as milage goes, it could be accurate. I will tell you mine had 152,000 before I started the resto. When I bought in 95, it had 126K on it, but you would have never believed it. So, I would think once you look everything over carefully, you'll be able to tell what its "real condition" is.

1987 models had a five (5) digit odometer and they rollover at 100,000 miles to Zero. So a 73 k car could well be 173,000 miles. People ask me how miles on my car and I say about 5K and I say, look at the odometer if you don't belive me. But my car dosen't show its age, like the one you describe.

i had the vin number decoded, its in fact a 5.7L tpi Iroc. i looked on nada and my 86 Iroc with the 305 5.0L TPI is worth 10,388 in excellent condition. the 87 5.7 iroc should be worth more? lets see, i cant get values for the 87 iroc 5.7 because nada doesnt have the options menu for the 87 iroc but it does for the 86 iroc.

I think 10K is a bit of a stretch there man. I haven't seen any 3rd gens in excellent condition unless resto'ed and with usually a lot more than 10k put into them.

mine is in pretty good condition but isnt excellent, i will have to put about 3-4 grand in it before its show-room. i was just using it as an example. but that is what nada said though. i wouldnt sell mine for under what its worth. i guess im saying il never sell my 86. the people havent called me about the iroc but i will go up there next week with some cash to offer for the car and if they dont bite, il just sink it into my iroc i have.

not sure what country you are from, but no third gen will sell for $10k short of being a full tube race car. a spotless 86 z28 in excellent condition can get about $3500 (i got mine for $1200) as for being rare with a 350, its not extremely rare, but it is the first year with the 350. if there was any increase in value, i would say maybe another $300

not to contradict what you said but ive seen third gens go for over 10k and seen them go for in the teens so i know it can be done. especially with the IROCs and the Z28s. if i get mine looking good since it has 68k i know i could get 10k out of mine. ive had offers of 8 and 9k for my IROC.
