The same crap you found in the filter is probably also in the gas tank and clogging things up. A clogged filter puts a lot of strain on the fuel pump, and may cause it to break down.

i was thinking the same thing too, but could the tank be getting vapor locked? i know when i open the gas cap it sounds like its releasing lots of pressure for about 2 seconds.. perhaps my gas cap is messed up...??

change the fuel filter again and see whats in it, did you get the flashlight out and look in the tank when you changed the pump.

That's normal. Yes the tank is releasing pressure when you remove the cap, the car has a sealed fuel system. You can't have "vapor lock" when the tank is pressurized like it is, and supposed to be.

i guess, when ever i go the the pump with my sentra it never dose that, so i dunno..and for the stuff that was in the tank it only comes off if i scrape at it..ill have to end up taking the tank out again and getting it cleaned out...replace the fuel pump for the 2nd time and the fuel filter.. if that dont help then i dont have a clue...other than the fuel pump issues, my fuel gauge is out. so i got a new one and it still dont work..it just gose all the way past "Full" like it was doing before i replaced it. so im guessing its the sending unit that ill replace while the tank is out again. Thanks for the help by the way.

better look close at the pump wires and connections while your at it. seems to be an issue in one of the connectors overheating to the point of failure back there that we been seeing here recently.

well the first time i had the pump out one of the black wires was not even hooked up to the tank or w.e, so i went and replaced the old wires with the new ones that came with OEM replacement pump. but im starting to think it might be the stuff in the tank, cuz when i noticed that the pump started goin out again was after i was doing 360s on some dirt roads.. must of worked up the stuff on the bottom of the tank and clogged up the filter.. just a theory tho

sounds like a good theory. allow the tank to full dry and inspect what the crap is. if its rust, replace the tank. if its algae or sludge, clean it out
