Default First Project Car (89 IROC)

So I got my first project car! Yay me! It is a 1989 IROC 5.7 obviously..

My questions are well kinda retarded I guess. At first I wanted to restore the car back to its original condition, but now I want to upgrade it to the point where I can drive it as an every day car. And still feel like it has some ***** when I press the pedal!

My questions are:

1. Since the tranny is falling apart and has been rebuilt once already, what would I need to install a T56 6 Speed? Or an automatic 6 Speed out of a 2000 Vette or newer? And will this tranny bolt up to the 350 TPI I have in it now?

2. I know ill need a new rear-end. So does anyone know how much i could score a 2000 Vette or newer rear end for? And would it be worth while to even install something like that into this vehicle. Thoughts?

3. The suspension and brakes need a drastic improvement, and I know ill be installing a WS6 braking system into the car as well as a Z06 suspension on the car. THoughts on this?

So because im weird overview of what I want to do with the car:

1. 00' or Vette 6 Speed automatic tranny
2. Upgrading rear-end to a 00' Vette or newer
3. Upgrading Brakes/Suspension to 00' Vette or newer

I know this is alot to read but any thoughts/ ideas are greatly appreciated!

you would have to use a tranny out of a camaro or firebird, the vette tranny is different and wont fit.All you need is a 4 speed auto, you wouldnt need a 6 speed. Is the car auto or manual now ? I would stay with what you have so you dont have to waste money converting it over.Im not sure if the vette rear end will work, especially since its independent rear suspension, you could make it work but it wont be a straight up bolt on.I think if you use the vette brakes you will have to use 17" wheels or larger.Im noticing a vette pattern here, it would be easier on the pocket and installation if you stay within the camaro/firebird field.oh yeah Welcome! post some pics if you can, always love a good project

Yeah, im putting some pictures up right now. So, just stay with the 700r4? Hmm.. Kinda wanted to add an extra gear or two to the car manual or auto, and the car as it is is a automatic. =D

Im a newbie so I may or may not know what im saying lol!

yeah you really dont need more than 4 gears, just depends, maybe if you upgrade the engine in the future you can go with the newer 4l60e or just get your trans built to hold up better

Lol. It definately needs a new tranny. So, ill take your advice and just go with a new 700r4. Regarding the Vette brake system I have 19x11.5's for the rear and 18x10.5's for the front with 2inch spacers.

Now from what i heard if i get a newer camaro rear-end. I dont need the spacers but its whatever really the car will still look decent.

yeah id try and get a rear end from a 4th gen camaro, the 3rd gen rear ends were really weak, the 4th gens are super strong but unless you have a few thousand to put into a rear end going to a junk yard or looking locally for a 4th gen rear end would be a wise choice
