Hey all new to this forum. I have a 91 rs 305 with 150,000 miles on her. My q is: when i turn the heater or defrost on, the engine surges like when i'm stopped at a light, if i turn the heater off motor idles fine!! Has anyone had this prob b4 and what can i do to fix it? Thx

 

It sounds like you have a vaccuum leak.

 

I have a kind of similar problem, when ever im stopped at a light I notice my engine sounds sort of bogged down, but when I turn off my heater it idles fine.

 

Probably a vacuum canister leak, or a line running to or from it. There's a canister in the vac system meant to retain vacuum so the HVAC system won't default to defogger if you snap the throttle, since the ducts are vacuum controlled.

 

i hear the clutch on the compressor alway kickin on and off too is that maybe the prob?

 

If it's doing it more than ussual, it's probably low on refrigerant, and it's not likely the cause, but it's possible.

 

It's typical to feel a little 'blip' in power when the compressor is turning on and off.

Is it enough to make the nose of the car dive?
