Engine Preferences?

Engine Preferences?
Thinking about swapping my 305 for 350 after a while, was just wondering if anyone had any pros/cons for this or that motor. So, if anyone has any experience with
TBI
TPI
LT1
LS1
any other personal fave's... then feel free to drop a post!
Also, I'm planning on boost and a 6-spd manual swap after a while also. And, I did a quick search and didn't find anything, so if I missed anything, feel free to let me know.
Thanks!

RE: Engine Preferences?
The LS1 is a good motor, but unfortunately for you, it isn't based off the origional Chevy small block, so it probably wouldn't fit into your car without significant modification. I'd suggest going with the LT4, it is the same as the LT1, which is an origional Chevy small block, but the LT4 has better flowing heads and a more aggressive cam(along with a few other things).

RE: Engine Preferences?
Thanks all! I'm gonna do butt-loads of looking around for info before I start buying anything... gives me more time to save up some money. Any additional comments are much appreciated.

RE: Engine Preferences?
could you fill me in a little more why the lt4 would be a better choice than a typical 350 I am wanting to be a little more informed. What I do know is they produce around 330hp, have a cast cast crank with a standard 350 bore and stroke, the heads have a 2.0 intake, and the crank seal is one piece. Where do you gain the advantage???? Are they roller cam? How much do they cost normally used. I might want to play around with one.

400 smallbock -- no replacement for displacment
383 smallblock --- 350 block 400 crank-- you would be impressed with the way some of these run, you can get a aftermarket crank fairly reasonable 3.75 stroke set for 350 mains
377 350 crank in a 400 block
sort of depends on your budget I guess

Griff, this site should give you all the technical information you need on the LT4 and LT1 too.

RE: Engine Preferences?
You could always look for a crate chevy. Im considering these two myself and these can be bought at the parts department of your local Chevrolet dealer too. So no shipping + a warranty.

or if you want fuel injection on an old style chevy block...

IT'd be brand new, reliable, has a warranty, and you can buy it at a dealer. Very little hassle.

RE: Engine Preferences?
i have seen someone with a early 90s camaro it was a 90-92 and he had a ls1 in it so anything is possible, if you have the money, personally i own a LT1 and its a good engine and everything but the ls engines have more horsepower and i like the ignition system better but its all up to you

RE: Engine Preferences?
Ive thought about crate motors, but I'd rather piece-by-piece by and build my motor. That way, I can not only smoke the next guy, but save some cash and earn bragging rights. And, that way, I can get some know-how in there too, for when things go wrong.
