Engine Misfire strange popping noise
My 1990 camaro RS is misfiring and a popping noise is comingthrough my carberator. it sounds like a ticking is coming from my left side valve cover. it started afteri pulled my wires from the manifold. the wires have been replaced but its still making the popping noise. it sounds like it could be coming from the carberator.

make sure the wires are connected correctly and are leading to the right places. check for spark. check your cap and rotor for any abnormal wear. replace if ANYTHING looks fishy or if its got a lot of miles on it

How can I determine if i have a bad distributor. I advanced the distributor and the poping stopped, however, I think it is out of time because I cannot get it started. I also noticed that when the car was idleing the top radiator hose was swolen, I have replaced the thermostat and the water pump. I need help, I am determined to get this car right.

Is you 90 Rs a stock 305? I ask because you say it has a carb and it would actually be a TBI.
Do you still hear the ticking? Check your wires and look for a broken plug. When a spark is jumping it will make a ticking noise. Something bad there could also cause the pop from the carb or TBI. Also double and tripple check your firing order.

My Camaro had a 305 but I changed it over to a 350 I was having overheating problem and that is why I changed the engine. That did not solve the problem but I think the air baffle is the problem because it is missing. How can I fix the timing now because it will not start. I did not understand that , but No I am not on dope, and I will not burn out . Smile*************

Ok that deflector at the bottom of the radiator suport is important. First thing on these F bodies when it over heats is too make sure thats still on there.
Get your timing back on track would be to bump the engine around to #1 compression stroke. Pull the #1 plug and put a thumb over the hole and have some one bump it around. Once you feel compression build then you know its on the right stroke. Turn it the rest of the way by hand to the 0 on the pointer and then look atbthe rotor and where it lines up with #1 on the cap.
And those are my signature quotes. Not just there for your benefit but for all.
