Whats up guys, i know this is an old and not-to-visited thread, so i dont think im contributing much..but 305 sounds like it would be a good build. Also thinking about a 302 build (327 block with 283 crank) beacause theyre both oversquare engines

oversquare engine = less losses due to friction (more efficient power) and higher HP. Disadvantages: higher linear piston speed and less torques.

The torque can be fixed with some good old-fashioned forced induction! Im not sure of the negative effects of an increased piston speed, if any--except maybe decreased piston ring life? Ideas?

im finding that with my 86 IROC with a stock TPI 305 it runs pretty snappy AND im getting 22 mpg hiway so i can afford to drive it more often.a comparably equipped car gets a good bit less

Just got me a 1991 RS with the 305 in it. Wife wont let me spend much. Was thinking a throttle body spacer, flowmasters, and maybe a chip...dont know how much a hyper chip is but I do know that with my dodge Ram, I bought a G-Force chip and noticed a bit of a difference in throttle response and I can get one of those for about $75 whole sale...any suggestions?

synthetic oil helps, so do roller tip rockers,i suggest 1.5 rto on the intake valves and 1.6 rto on the exhaust.i had to build my car with emissions tests in mind so i had to forgo turbos and all that wild stuff i used the 416 heads with a stock TPI that came on the car.is yours a roller block?? if so a roller cam reduces friction quite a bit.the flowmaster made for our cars(with a single exhaust) helps but i dont reccomend a 40 series as they will get you a ticket.i replaced the low compression dished pistons with speed pro flat tops, zero decked the block.for a compression rto of 10.5-1 it runs well on 87 regular gas and dynos at 347 hp at 5200 rpm and 421 lbs ft torque at 2700 rpm and all for $1300 i hope this helps, good luck
