My buddy has a 305 vortec motor that came out of his truck. He rebuilt a 350 and stuck it in there so he said I can have this motor, will it fit in my camaro? I already have an 87 but I think the block may be cracked as water is disappearing. Would anything need to be modified?

A 305 is gonna fit since they came stock in the Camaro.

The typical issue with using truck engines in Camaros is the height of the intake setup as trucks typically have a lot more than Camaros do.

You can measure from the top of the block to the top of the intake on the donor engine and then compare it to engine you currently have in the vehicle to give yourself an idea if you have clearance.

If its too tall, you'll need to buy an intake from a junkyard or aftermarket supplier. Or I guess you could buy an aftermarket hood with a built in scoop, but the intake would be cheaper.

 

you didn't indicate what you intended to do fuel management wise so i am guessing you intend to keep your current ignition and fuel delivery system. assuming this is correct and the tall deck truck motor fits height wise, the main issue may be fuel injection. if you have a tpi setup you intend to reuse it will not work with the vortec heads. I'm not sure if a car tbi manifold can be modified to fit the truck heads, but i imagine it would be easier to use the truck intake manifold in such a case. the throttle body should bolt up fine to the truck motor intake if the truck is tbi.
if you are trying to use the truck intake and ignition i think you will have issues going between your OBDI computer and harness and the trucks OBDII controlled parts. i have no idea what would be involved.
