Default 91 rs 305

I just bought a 91 rs with 176k miles on it. Test drove it 2 weeks ago ran fine, when i picked it up tday it ran fine for a mile or so stopped to get a drink let it idle it started to run rough then died. previous owner said if it has 1/4 tank and you hit the brakes hard it will die so i thought it was just low on gas, had it towed home put gas in it and same thing idle from 1700 to 500 up and down tried to drive and just kept cutting out and wanting to die. it has a hypertech chip in it i put the stock one back in and it seemed worse. she had a new distributer and timing chain put in awhile back, recently had the oil changed coolant changed and a oil press sending unit replaced.

any help on where to start? getting a code reader to use monday mine is still in WI.
Thanks.
Rob

I got a code 44 lean exhaust indication 02 sensor voltage stays low after one minute of engine run. Would water in the fuel cause that, and how long will it take for the heat to work?

93 book says water in fuel can cause code 44. could be map says to unhook map to see if that makes the lean fuel go away, if not its not the map. check for low fuel pressure, also lean injectors, says do injector balance test. these are most of the things it points to. pull fuel filter and see if its got water. may be too much water in tank. may have to remove tank and drain.

I unplugged the electrical on map sensor and the car dies. If I pull the vac line on map and plug, it car will idle smooth for few seconds then die. Hook it back up idle goes from 1700 rpm to 500 rpm up and down then almost dies when it gets to 500 rpms.

your computer may be different than mine. sure its not a maf. anyways make sure its not water to start with. pull the fuel filter and dump the gas from the filter into a glass jar. if theres water u should see it.

yes pull the fuel filter and dump out so u can tell if there is more water. that heat works for small amounts of water but if u have more than a little not so good. thats why u need to see if theres still water in the system. if there is it will be a good idea to remove the gas tank and completely drain it to get the water out. went through that with my truck. after 3 or 4 filters i drained it and it worked fine till it rusted out.
