89 305 V8 Questions, Please Help!
WEel I was tearing into my V8 today to clean it and fix a few problems (exhaust manifold gasket blow out, O2, ect) When I decided Im going to delete the AIR/SMOG Pump and all that stuff. So I look for where everything goes and makes a parts list for things I'll need (mostly bolts to plug the holes and a new belt) The I seen the hoses for the heater and I was about to take them off thinking they were the smog stuff at first. Lucky I figured out what they were and Im stumped as to why they look like that.
ok point blank for people who dont like to read long posts.
To delete the AIR/SMOG system is all I really need is some bolts to plug the holes and a smaller belt?
And what is with the heater hoses? do they normaly come almost to the front of the block to that...Valve I guess?
Really All I want is to clean up the engine bay and make somemore room in there, its a little to cramped IMO
Oh and did the 305s have Iron heads? (Probably a dumb question but I would like to know anyways)

You need a shorter belt, and you have to re-route it a slightly different way.
I removed the pump on my 91, and used a GoodYear Gatorback (I like them) belt #4060967. Worked like a charm.
And if you have A/C, you need to put back the bolt that was holding the pump to the aluminum bracket. That bolt mounts into the block and helps to hold the A/C bracket in place. I cut a piece of pipe to use as a filler in place of where the pump was so that the bracket would sandwich against the block like it should.
Yeah, those heater hoses are set up weird. I planned to re-route them and put that control valve more on the inner fenderwell to clean up that mess. I hate under-hood clutter.
And yes to the iron heads.

RE: 89 305 V8 Questions, Please Help!
Can somebody tell me why my 1990 RS camaro is still over heating after a new radiator, thermostat, hose, fan motor, water pump. I changed from a 305 to a 350.
Let see, New fan not runnig, Defective thermostat, Undersize Radiator, Timing way off, air traped in the system, Wrong intake gaskets, wrong head gaskets, engine running to lean, bad radiator cap,

It could even be a clog in the system, see if you can get the system power flushed somewhere and make sure you have the right flowing pump on it as well, if all else fails take the thermostat out and see if it cools down

Motor getting hot, hee..hee!
You forgot one. Is the water pump in fact a reverse-flow type?

If the original serpintine belt system was used then it will need a reverse flow pump. Also make sure the belt is routed correct.
And another common problem is the air deflector missing from the bottom of the radiator suport.
