Best Thing to do would be to swap to a 350 TPI. You can get a crate 350 or a used one from Hawks Third Gen parts.com.
But if your stuck on the 305, you can get headers, or you can rebuild the rear-end. As far as "easy" performance mods come, Chevy's are not the most convenient.

yeah, it's a 305, it's all stock except a 52'' throttle body and the Magnaflows. I'm saving up to get a 350

That's what I am doing, saving for a 350. Plan on putting my 305 in an s10 whenever I get the swap done.

for the price to bulid a 305 you can but a nice done up 350. check craigslist.com and search your area. some people have rebuilt motors that are a screamin' power plant.

if you wanna build a 305 i say do it not enough people do. there are several things that you could do. it all depends on if you wanna spend alot of money quick or alot of money over time. one way and the way im personally thinking about going with mine is a complete tear down and rebuild the big diference is the 350 crank upgrade your heads and some new pistons and you got yourself a nice little power house of a 355. hook that up to a rebuilt 350 turbo tranny or pardon my lack of knowing the actual term for the transmission but a rebuilt 5spd and some good rear end gears 3:73 4:11 whatever you want. youd put yourself up there with the guys that run around the streets of our major cities tearing up dumb kids that think theyre hot ****. or you could keep the stock crank just switch the cams rockers push rods lifters timing gear and chain along woth a larger trotle body a new mufler or custom makes true duels again whatever fits you style and a good set of shoes now ou aint running up there quite yet but you aint no little punk either this is a good build for the budgeted owner/enthusiast. and of vcourse there is always the 350 swap but if your gonna do that whhy not spend a little extra and buy a 383 or 396 hell even a 454 or 502. i mean hell there are several things you could swap to but why do all that if you aint gonna be running on a track. i say save yourself some money drop about 2-3000 on the platform you already got and have some fun. do all the other big stuff later.

by the way if you cant tell i am the proud owner of a 86 z28 myself. i bought the car just before i found out my wife was pregnant. i would love nothing more than to build myself a 355 but i dont know if that is gonna happen. personally i just want a good road car for summer cruising though. its gonna be quick enough to dust ricers but nothing suoer special.

wa-howw. really? stroke a 305? have you ever built a motor? for the price of the **** you just listed he could buy a 360 thats been punched .60 over. their for making it a 358, plus up grades. and upgraded heads? do you know how much just new heads cost? plus pistons? save up a little more and get a 383, 396, 454 or even 502? you are F******g dumb for even mentioning a 383 (stroker motor which he'd have to build) 396, 454, or 502. 1. no one just throws away 396's like its their day job. 2. a 454 would be wayy to much power for the car with out making frame supports or even possibly a 4 link. 3. a 502 crate motor from GM is 20,000$. so for saying "i say save yourself some money drop about 2-3000" your retarded. plus money to build frame supports and build/buy a 4 link set up, the cutting out the rear end to instal it. honestly im sorrry. but you have no clue what your talking about. he said he wanted some nice upgrades not a 502. then you talk about changing gears? if he was gonna put that amount of power in it i dont think he'd be running a 12 bolt rearend. more like a ford 9. seriously, know what your even saying before you hit the keyboard. stay off the keyboard and dont even write back saying that im wrong and blah blah im a punk. your just trying to seem like you know what your talking about. sp put down the HotRod magazine you've been getting these stupid ideas from, and learn something.
