85camaro. should have a v6 according to vin. it has (not confirmed by running numbers on motor) its a 305 and has 2bl carb. the air conditioning has been plugged off. is it better to just roll down the windows or worth while to spend how much money on getting air cond items needed. was told that it will cost more than the car to put it in. rather just find a 350 from another veh and take what i can. thoughts?

 

Do you already have controlls, wiring, and an evaporator in the HVAC box?

 

i'll do some further checking. looks like everything was stripped. how hard to re-install. have a guy with an 83 that will give me everything. think it'll work?

 

I ought to. I would replace any softlines with new, as well as anything that looks corroded. And you HAVE to replace the receiver/drier (that's the round thing on the passenger side with the AC lines coming out of it, if you didn't know) since the desecant bag is ruined when that portion of the system is opened, and when you get the new one, don't even think about removing the plugs untill you're about to connect the lines. You'll also want to have someone with an R-12 machine suck the system down for at least 30 minutes. This will ensure that there are no impurities in the system, as well as check for any leaks before you spend money on precious refrigerants.
