Default 84 Z28

I just bought an '84 Z28. My father had one when I was living in Hawaii and I remember riding in it when I was around 6. Since then I have always wanted one and saturday I go pick it up. I was so excited and still am! I am sure that I am going to be asking a lot of questions on here and I hope that you guys will be able to put up with me! As soon as i get some pics of it, I will post them on here. Thanks in advance for all the help I hope to get on here!!!

ok that was my initial post. Now that I got the car I have some different questions. I am looking at trying to get it to pass emissions. The prior owners let me know that the carb needs a rebuild. Question 1. What carb would you put on it. It is a 350 engine. I drove it home and right near the time i got it home it shut off and choke light came on. Now I was able to start it up again but i had to keep it revved up. When i come to a stop it will turn off. Any help would be appreciated!

If its an 84 with the original engine its a 305. To pass emissions your going to have to keep the original feed back carb as it is computer controled. When it died and the choke light came on did it stay on as you were driving home? If it did you may have a problem with the alternator since the choke gets its power from that.

they took the engine out and now it has a 350 with around 55 thousand on it. And yes the choke light stayed on. I was messing with it yesterday and the light would flicker on and off. It idles between the 5 and 10 but will drop down and just about sputter out.

what state are you? depending on the state i would say screw the emissions and try to get yourself either a classic or collectible/hobbyist plates on the car, itll limit your mileage some but you can skip emissions and yearly registration if your state has it.

Try taking it to Specialty Automotive in Mesa on Main. They are pretty good with Chevys

have the same ride and had the same problem with the carb. I fiddled with it for about a month cleaning it and trying to figure out if there was a vacuum leak. An exact replacement will run u about 450 bucks. I opted 4 an offroad holly directreplacement. 650cfm. You will not pass emmisions with this carb, but it will haul ***. It was 350 bucks from jegs. If u decide to go that route try to find a place thatu canget a sticker 4 sum doe. Also be prepared to slightly bend ur stock fuel line if u choose to keep it stock. If u do go after market lines, I recommend adding a phenolic spacer between tne intake and carb to prevent heat soaking.
