Default 82 berlineta

I am a NOOB so please be gentle. I inherited a 1982 camaro berlineta. The person I got it from replaced the timing chain and then lost interest. There seems to be an oil/water leak and I am wondering. Would I be better off to replace the engine (5.0L) with a 5.7L or maybe he did not get a clean install of the timing chain and I have a bad seal at the water pump and timing cover. Is the 5.L really that bad? And do I have to worry about the computer interface between the 5.L and 5.7? I searched the forums and did not seem to have these questions answered.
Any suggestions would be very helpful.

I have an '82 Berlinetta that had the LG4 305 & it ran real good. It was no race car!
When I did timing chain on mine I motor mounts off , trans mount, took drive shaft out
-- so I could put a new Oil pan seal on as well. also put in a rear main seal too.
I used plenty of gasket cement (old style copper oat.) It turned out fine. No leaks.
I took my time on this!

I've since put in a 300 HP L-48 Corvette motor from 1970. It ended up being too much
for it & will require frame connectors & a Beefed up 10 or 12 Bolt Posi. I still have the
LG4 305 & there wasn't anything wrong with it. I might put that motor back it as the
car only has 59,000 & very original looking...
