Default 3rd Generation Camaro questions.

I want to know more about the 3rd Generation Camaro. I like these Camaros from that time frame. I would want an 86 or 87 preferably. Definintely a Z28. I would prefer a carb, but fuel injection would be okay. I definitely want a manual 5 speed transmission. So here are my questions.

What kind of motor do they have? (I want to know HP, torque, liters, etc.)

Do they have a positraction rear end?

How is the handling? (I heard they were much lighter than the previous Camaros)

Any 0-60 time or 1/4 track time information would be good to know.

Other information is also appreciated.

Thanks.

Answers for a 5sp ONLY for Z28 & IROC-Z28....And NO 350 engine was available with a 5-sp manual.
Engines:
1986...
LG4 305 (carb) 165hp/250tq std
L69 305 (carb) 190hp/240tq opt
LB9 305 (TPI) 220hp/320tq opt
1987:
LG4 305 (carb) 170hp/250tq std
LB9 305 (TPI) 210hp/295tq opt
Note:
Above cars with 5-sp and L69 & LB9 will be very hard to find, due to low production numbers.

RPO G80 Limited Slip (NOT positraction) was a option but will be on the optional engine as it was required.

Handling was very good for the Era and the cars weighed in at 3400/3500 lbs.

Track times varied for the engines from mid 14 to high 15 seconds.

You want more info Google those model years.

Hey thanks for the reply. It seems like these cars weren't too bad. If it wasn't for the government and their regulations. I guess there are still ways to get past the "choking" and make these cars into beasts.

My one friend put a 383 stroker on a 350 engine and it runs good. It has a 5 speed transmission and a carb. I think it is an 84 or 85. Not to mention, it has a dual exhaust system with headers and a big cowl induction hood.

my 305 tpi z28 ran a best of 15.203 @ 92.24 mph with an auto and 2.73 gears. it wasnt a very healthy motor either. if the issues were corrected, i would have had about a 15 flat

I bought my first third gen this winter. It handles very good. The biggest draw back I found is you have to spend as much on a rear end as you do a decent motor. You know the saying you have to pay to play. They are fun to drive and I would recommend one to a friend.

To the op, you can go to my website if you want to see the available engines for the years you want. it's ponycarcamaro.com. Just go to third generation dropdown menu and then to engine specs.
