Default 305 life expectancy?

Hello,
(first post...bare with me ) Ive been looking for a Camaro for a while now, my dream car is a 67-69 camaro ss or z28(badass car). Anyways, i found a 1992 Camaro Rs, 305, 5spd, ps, pb, ac, blah blah blah... The good is, its only about 3grand, the bad news is its got 140,000 miles on it. Its being sold from a dealer, so I assume that it was looked over. My question is...How many miles are teh 305's good for about before they need rebuilt?

Thanks everyone, Jake

it all depends how well taken care of the car was, i would have a mechanic inspect the engine and have a diagnostic of the engine done, i would rebuild the car near 200,000 but it all depends

Well, I have an LO3 that I dog the hell out of every day I drive it, never been rebuilt with 212k on it, and it still runs as beautifully as a mostly stock LO3 can...

If it doesn't smoke or make noise ( lifters, bearings, etc. ) then It's basically in good shape. Do Your maintainance ( change oil regularly, etc ) and it will last many, many more miles.

My 1992 25th annv. RS 5 speed has the stock 305 engine in it that came new in 1992. My madre picked it up with 2 miles off the dealership lot, its got around 120k miles on it, and we've only replaced the usual, some hosing, wires, radiator, things of that nature. The engine still runs perfect and I push it hard. So I think as long as the engine has been checked out you can probably be safe in buying it.

Well I had a not so good story. I bought an 1982 Z28 with the 305 and about 82,000 miles car was taken care of pretty well but when I turned to 105,000 the piston rod shoot out of the oil pan, quit a nasty sight. Mind you I took care of the car the only thing that went wrong was the oil pump sump feel off loosing oil pressure.

I have a 1995 4x4 with a 305 that has 223,000 miles on it it uses about 1/2 quart of oil per 3500 miles. It even has the factory clutch.

DAMN NOW THATS LIFE EXPECTANCY!!!!!! I wish my old camaro did that but then again I wouldn't have had any reason to throw in a small block 400 with 450+hps in it. Well at least thats what I told my dad back then.

I am the second owner I bought it from a guy I worked with I know it never been overhauled it has one slight lifter tick and the throwout bearing is making some noise but the body is in good shape. Just sold it to my dad, the way he drives it will last another 60000.
