1979 350
I have a question for all of your experinced camaro owenrs. i bought 1979 camaro with a 4 speed, 350, the mods are holley 4 barrel. edelbrokc mainfold. headers not sure what kind. and flowmaster H pipe. people say there is a modified cam in it but ic ant tell and the guy didnt tell me anythign about it. Now ive raced civics and crxs and they keep up i barely beat them and there stock so im wondering if there could be something wrong with the engine or jsut not alot of power. Now for my next question my vacum hose on the carb is in the side of the carb in front of the choke but there is a hose underneath the front that is cut and has a screw in it any one know what that hsoe in the front could be or if thats where the vaccum line goes. if people could please reply i culd sure use the help thanks,John

RE: 1979 350
My bud has an 80 Camaro, and it has GOBS of power, he is a true gearhead. But, it's slow as nuts because it has a really low rear end in it, something like 2.70 gears or something like that. That could be why you are "Slow". Also, it may be your carb. My 87 305 has more plugged hoses in it than a house of ill repute. If you want to find out if that screw needs to be there, start the motor and let it idle. Then, one-by-one, pull off a hose and plug it with your finger. If you feel vacuum, you probably need that one plugged.
One more thing, that bit on the carb, I very easily could be wrong. So, if anyone else has better info, listen to them.

I have a 79 but mine is a berlinetta it had a 305 in it and I think the gear ratio was a 2.4?:1 it was a dog with those gears. The should be a vacuum port on the carb the same diameter as the dist advance I have also seen them on the manifold??. The vacuum port that is plugged off may be the port for an automatic trans but that is just a guess.

I don't know too much, I just know what made mine run more smoothly. My distributor has nothing to do with the carb, other than the cables running nearby (when I get pics up, please, no one be shocked by how much dress my car needs... its a sore sight for eyes, to say the least). On my carb, any hole that had vacuum, I put a piece of hose on, and plugged with a screw and gasket-seal.
Also, if anyone has a better method, lemme know... I'm learning everything on my own and will take any advice that can be given.

If you have a vacuum advance on your distributor, it should be connected with a hose to the port on the carburator which is near the choke. The hose at the bottom of the carb is to provide a vacuum source for the brake booster. The booster may be already be connected to a vacuum source on the intake manifold, in which case the bottom hose should be plugged off. Other vacuum lines are used to oprerate air doors in the heater & AC system. Go online to www.Holley.com & go to the Instruction section to see how things should be connected.
