Default 1979 rs

I am new to the Forum, but think I'll fit in.
I brought home a 1979 RS last weekend. It is a work in progress. Currently no engine installed, but have a 396 going on the engine stand next weekend. I have removed all of the interior and I am almost ready to start putting it back together.
The car was a "Barn" Find. It was sitting in a barn without a motor since 1992. I have dropped the TH350 to have it rebuilt and beefed up, including a shift kit and 300 stall converter.
The 396 will have a mild cam and a Holley 670cfm dual feed, double pump sitting on top.
I have not decided on the exterior color yet, but I am thinking Candy Red or Candy Orange. The interior is being changed to Black.
The car has the RS 14" rims complete with all trim rings and center caps. I am not sure that they will stay because I cannot find any tires bigger than 245\60\14. I would like to get a little more tire diameter than that. I will probably look for some old school Cragars.

Welcome! The old 396 is a great choice for any Camaro. They wind pretty good for a big block, and make good power with the right setup. The stock 396 in a Camaro SS was 375 hp, and in a Corvette in 1966 it was 425 hp. I think you'll be very happy with that choice.

Welcome.

I got a call last week offering a 369 w/ 10,000 on the rebuild for 1500 bucks including the tranny. I have no spare change or it would be in the 85 shorty box at my dads. I still may trade off the T/A for it. Good luck, keep us posted.

I put the BBC on the engine stand yesterday. I was trying to post pictures, but all I can post is a link.

I also tried to get into the Photo Gallery and I get the error message below:

You may have to have 10 posts first before you can post in certain sections. There has been alot of spam posts before this.

Welcome to the forum. I've got a 79 too, good luck on your build. I'm about ready to get back at it again with mine now that winter is here.
