ok this is what going on me and a buddy mine put in a new speedo cable in my 1988 Camaro everything worked out great speedo is working perfect then about 2 hours or so afterwards it stops working well i looked under the car to make sure the that it hadn't come off then i checked behind the cluster everything was still plugged in then i just thought i would check where we had ran it under the hood. Then immediately after i popped the hood i saw it it was a mangled melted ball of cable my exhaust manifold melted it. so here is my question anyone know the proper way to route the speedo cable?

 

Away from the exhaust....

There is normally a clip, hook, loop something you can run the cable through. Im not sure what you call it. If not get a zip tie. I like to run mine high and down the back of the tranny, but factory ran low along the frame.

Don't feel bad, many of us have done the same thing, once.
