Default LT1 into third gen?

Id like to know what steps and such i would need to drop a LT1 into my third gen maro. I am not interested in a LS1 so do not tell me to put one in. I just like a rough estimate of what i would need and a price range.

it can be done but your gonna from what ive heard replace the computer and wiring harness for your car, completely redo the fuel system, and modify the transmission mounting area to accomodate the T56 trans unless you have an auto then the 4l60e is the same as the 700r4 so i think the 700r4 should mount up to the LT1 but i would go with the 4l60e since its what bolted to the LT1. your looking at a few grand. the LT1 will be the most expensive part of it all. talk to some guys in the V8/iroc section of the forum . but im sure your gonna have quite an investment in the car. IMO your better off trying to find a TPI 350 .

Take some advice from someone who owns an LT1...Great engine (when it's not giving you trouble).

Search harder for the TPI engine. The LT1 is full of emmissions control garbage, and not to mention, a notoriously squirrley opti-spark distributor (WHEN your waterpump leaks). Don't get me wrong i love my car, but it also came with that engine so i'm stuck with it whether or not i like it lol. A TPI will also be cheaper to fix.

Either way you will need to replace your wiring, fuel system and trans. There is very little that will transfer from a V6 to a TPI 350 or an LT1. IMO the LT1 would be a nice upgrade for a 3rd gen. 285 HP stock and it responds to mods better then the old TPI. That in the lighter 3rd gen would make for a fun car to drive. Trust me when I say the 350 TPI system had their fair share of issues. This is also an upgrade that would increase the value of the car if done right.

I have thought about this combo myself as a project just because 3rd gen with blown V-6's are cheap as dirt and the LT1's are dropping in price weekly.

working on it now..

Not a bad swap. Check out thirdgen.org. TONS of people on there who have done it. Basically bolts in. Everybodys saying the BIGGEST PITA is the wireing. Some say they have it done in a few hours, others say weeks. I got my harness and computer together when i got my motor for 600 bucks. Hell of a deal. If your wanting a TPI setup.... Im selling one. minus the harness. Which after 20 years, you would want to replace it anyways if your going through all that work.
