Help: Can I reprogram the computer speed control?
Ok, I have an '85 automatic berlinetta with all electronic dash that I just replaced the stock engin with a crate rebuild. I bought the car with the intent of doing this (thepiston rodswere already broken when I bought it), so I wnated to see what kind of higher power the new engin would deliver. I found that when I got to 75 MPH, the spedometer started flashing at me, then the computer shut off manual control of the speed, and then shifted gears to drop speed to about 50 MPH before returning control to me. I am assuming that this is some form of electronic speed governor. Is there a way to reprogram the computer to eliminate that? A 75 MPH limit for a Camaro is just wrong in so many ways. Any help would be appreciated.
First off, what kind of crate engine did you install?? Second, what is the ECM and the stock prom running?? Third, You can remove the speed governor with a new prom for the ECM.
Finding a prom for a 2.8 and of that age may be hard. You can check here and get a P/N then look up that number on some place like Summitracing.com.

Or if you search the web you should be able to find people that do custom burns.
