I just recently purchased a 91 rs and I put the diagnostic chip on it and replaced the map sensor, did the plugs and wires. Nothing else seems wrong with it but my problem is. I drove my uncles 91 firebird the forumla one. Its same exact motor and everything and it has way better accel. It just launches better then mine and is all around quicker. So i was wondering what would make my acceleration so slow. Im leaning towards a new throttle body but i cant find any places to buy the v6 parts.

 

The throttle body should not be your problem, but how about a clan air filter. Do you both have the same transmisson? What the heck is a diagnostic chip?

 

Look at his rpms at any certain speed and see if yours match. He may have a different rear end gears that make it feel that way. Or steal all his parts and swap them with yours till you find what makes his quicker.

 

The diagnostic chip or a code reader whatever you want to call it you plug it in under the dash. And a light will flash and you look in the book to see what it corresponds to

it might be the fact that the two cars have slightly different rear end gearing, the camaro has 3.23 gears, while the firebird had 3.42 gears

 

My dads friend told I should replace fuel injectors, that might be one thing. But his engine just seems to come on quicker even at rev

 

you need GEARS!!!! haha

 

Wait until one dark nite when the car is home but he ain't. Take two of your buddies with you who are competent with wrenches & have strong backs. Park your car beside his & swap rear ends with him. Problem solved! The Formula has performance gears & the RS came with stock gears. Makes a major difference in the seat of the pants feel.

Take heart in the fact that you get better gas mileage then he does!
