Another addition to the list:
Was having the same problem with girlfriend's 1990 third gen rs 3.1 v6. Came here and tried these over the last year, some were temp fixes. Had ignition coil done. cleaned injectors. replaced wiring. Replaced distributor cap, rotor, and plug wires. ECM, pressure regulator, O2 sensor. Fixed coolant leak.
Died again merging onto the freeway yesterday. Was just about to move to fuel pump based on recommendation. Brought it to a new shop and they recommended replacing the distributor. Add this to the list my friends, hopefully it was the base issue. Starts now and smoothed out the rough idle which required constant gas.
Wanted to post and share since this was so helpful in trying to figure out the issue. Made talking to mechanics much easier as well.
