Default '89 oil filter

In the middle of changing my oil. Oil is drained, just need to get my oil filter off. It's just on the driver's side of the oil pan, right?
i have a metal strap oil filter wrench, no matter how hard i try i cannot remove the oil filter!
i've tried from under the car, and i've tried from under the hood and i simply cannot find a way to get it free.
It's gotten to the point where the old oil filter is getting damaged, im putting big dents in it from the wrench!

any advice on how to get this bugger out?

thanks Camaro community!

Use a metal adjustable oil filter wrench. It has teeth on it that grips the filter. It dents the hell outta it so I wouldn't recommend using it to tighten the new one. It's sold at most auto parts stores. Should cost lest than $15.

Sorry, that's what i meant i had. it does have the teeth on the inside. all it is doing is denting the filter, i still can't get it loose.

any tips or techniques i can use to get the filter loose?

I don't think i want to try the screwdriver trick, but i am pretty close

EDIT: i think the main problem is that i can't find a good spot where i have enough space around the filter to actually get leverage. And ideas?

I've got one of these: Oil Filter Wrench and it works like a charm. The more you crank, the tighter it gets. I got it at a car swap so I don't know if local stores carry them.

Can you get a cup style remover on it too? It fits on the end of the filter and grabs the hexes. Maybe with you on the strap and someone else turning the other might get it (unless you can grab both).

Default oil filter

You are turning it counter clock wise, correct?

Alright. After about a week of trying and trying, and trying 2 different oil filter wrenches, and trying the screw driver method twice, i finally got it. phew. took waaay too long. whoever put it on got zeus to do the tightening.
Thanks for all your suggestions fellow camaro owners!
