I am looking to put a Tremec TKO trans in place of a T-5 trans in my 92 Camaro. I understand from sourses that I need an adapter to do this.Does anyone know who makes that adapter?
I do not but, I would avoid an adapter if I could anyway since an adapter means some kind of input shaft / pilot bushing extension. The GM TKO is a direct bolt in for the old school 4 speed bell housings. Chances are you are going to need to cut the floor anyways since the TKO is larger then the T5.
Hello, looking to do the same thing in my Camaro, did you ever end up doing it? I am looking to use the factory bell so that all the clutch parts are easily sourced at local parts stores. I don't want to buy proprietary parts like the throwout bearing that most sites say to use instead of the factory slave cylinder. looking for input on the matter. maybe an offset shifter with a custom angled shifter stick?
So you are looking for factory parts to convert ford trans to fit a chevy? Good luck.
If you are handy you could convert a T5 bell housing since you can get TKO with the same spline input shaft. Bell housings are simple things you could find someone to tig the existing holes closed position the trans in the right position and use transfer the hole pattern using transfer punches. The just get the heil coil kit and make new holes. I believe the T5 and TKO are the same length.
Do you already have the trans? Have you looked into a T56 conversion?
Yes I already have the trans. It's not the Ford version it's the gm version with the Muncie/t5 bolt pattern and input shft spline/length. I bought it from American Powertrain a while ago for an LS build in a c10 but I'm repurposing it for a daily driver 3rd gen camaro. That's mostly the reason I'm not looking into the t56 swap is i already have the trans.
Why not use use a T5 bell housing out of a V8/T5 car?
This is the problem we are trying to figure out, whether or not it's possible to use the factory t5 bellhousing for the tko instead of using a new bell like most swap sites (American Powertrain, Fortes, Modern Driveline, etc.) tell you to do.
Sorry about not following up on this, but in case anyone else sees this, there is an issue on the GM t5 bell housing. The transmission is mounted 15 degs rotated in a stock camaro t5 and that 15 degrees in in the bell housing. The TKO is not designed for that so it would put your sifter 15 degs off.
