Default Slapstick questions

Hello everyone. I have another Camaro project. I have a 1991 camaro RS body with what I believe is a Z28 350 in it. Obviously not the original engine of the car. Howerver, my question is about the transmission. It has an automatic tranny in it. I was wondering if it was possible to put a slapstick in it and what that would require. I don't know much about them and am just interested in learning about it to possibly install in the project! Thanks in advance to all of you!

Slapstick? Is this anything like a Lenco? or like a regular auto with a ratchet shifter?

Back a few years ago, I had a 91 RS, and was considering installing a different shifter. At the time, Hurst was making a dual gate ratchet (which is what I'm figuring you mean by slapstick) console shifter that was under $300, which looked pretty slick. It has since been discontinued, and those who have them for sale even used are selling them like they have gold. Keep in mind though, that it's going to be more of a cosmetic change than anything, your trans is still an "automatic". The real benefit would be if the trans was built accordingly, and with an automatic/manual valve body so you can truly "control" the shifts (if that's your goal).

I think thats what I'm looking for is the control. So what kind of tranny would I need? Are there specific ones made with the ratchet shifter?

assuming you have a 700r4 trans you could use this

TransGo | THM 700R4, 4L60: 700-2&3

if its not a 700r4 transgo has reprogramming kits for what looks like all GM auto transmissions

just to be clear, this has nothing to do with the 3 stooges and slapstick comedy; right?

haha, no no stooges involved.

Thanks so much. Does anyone have a link to buy one of these? Also, how do I double check the transmission? Are there numbers on it that would verify that it is a 700r4?
Thanks

If it hasn't been changed over to something like a TH350 it'll be a 4l60E, which is 99% the same as a 700R4, same case, same length....you can easily distinguish the 4l60 from another GM TH version by looking at the pan, they are model specific. If your is indeed an original 4l60E, you can look at the links and go from there. Keep in mind if this is a higher milage trans, holding gears, and forcefull downshifts won't make it age any better.
