Default 700r4 shifting problems

I have a 87 camaro with the 5.0 and the 700r4 tanny and it will only go in 1st
And reverse what problems would cause this

whats the fluid look like? when was the filter changed last?

The fluid is good doesn't smell burnt and I don't know about the filter I just bought the car last week from the I paid 1400$ cash for it with 66k but they did they me about the trany i just figured it was bad my dad seems to think its the vacuum control modul

There is no vacuum on a 700R4. Line pressure is controlled by the TV cable that goes from the throttle linkage to the drivers side of the trans. If this is unhooked or out of adjustment it can cause a host of problems...including a fried trans.

Ok so one of mt friends just gave me a turbo 350 Trans how hard is the swap

Like anything else it depends on what you mean by hard. You will need a new/fab'd cross member as well as provisions for connecting the torque arm. You will also need a driveshaft as the two trans are not the same length. I would also be leary of a free transmission. Who is to say what you already have is not in better shape than what you are receiving? There is no advantage to using the TH350 over your 700R4. I believe you are better off addressing the issue with what you have as it might be cheaper than fabricating the necessary things to get the th350 to work.

The tranny is from a friend he had a nova with the tranny in it and did a complete motor and tranny swap he went with a manual also I checked where the tv cable should be and it's missing completely so that's the problem I hope

if the tv cable is unhooked, it will stay only in first. they can slip off the throttle body as the cables start to stick. use some safety wire or a zip tie to hold it on. if you buy a replacement, measure the extended length of the cable. i went through 5 cables and still havent gotten one that is the right length
