I have KYB AGX's on my Subaru and they're sweet because they have an adjustable damping rate and they aren't overly expensive.

 

I got my KYB AGXs for $200 bucks new from a local guy. Still need to install them though. From what I understand, they are awesome.

 

Well it's pretty hard to argue with 8 different damping settings. The springs you have on them make a difference too (I'm running Swift Sport Springs on my Subie...wow, that's a lot of s's), but they're a great strut for the money. They're probably better than a cheap (read Meghan Racing etc.) coil over and less expensive. The next step up is a full adjustable coil over suspension.
