Anyone have any tips on where I can go to learn about how this car is made and works...I know I will have to put a new starter in it and do work to the breaks plus the lining on the t-tops is bad so that will also have to be replaced
any suggestions are welcomed

Your best bet is to spend $20 on a Haynes manual. I've got two of them, and though it could use more illustrations, it's come in very handy for me, who knows absolutely nothing about anything :v
