Default the Bout damn time LS gets a Fbody project thread

so as some of teh older members know.. for the past 3 or so years ive been bouncing around the automotive spectrum trying to find a project.. i finally went back to the very first project car ive ever wanted... a 3rd gen Fbody..

i picked up this clean '87 trans am last Wednesday for a nice $1500. heres a quick backround on the car (as i know it now, im getting a folder 6 inches thick full of paperwork for the car since it rolled off the showroom floor)

the car was originally from Van Nyes california, it was originally a LB9 (TPI 305 215hp/275tq) auto car with T-tops. i cant find the RPO codes but from the performance suspension emblem on the dash i believe it also has the WS6 package. somewhere down the line the car was swapped to a 5sp. the guy i bought it from blew the 305 so he bought a TBI 350 to swap the TPI onto and swap in.. i bought it im the middle of the swap.

im going to rebuild the 350. mild cam, flat top pistions all new gaskets, bearings, seals. aluminum heads drilled for the TPI intake, headers and Y pipe, 3.42 gears and pray the T5 will hold untill i can piece together a T56 swap.

now, some pics of how it sits now.. im buying a cherry picker tomorrow so i can get the 350 on a stand and start the tear down and start ordering parts to rebuild.. i wanna drive it before fall when it gets a full suspension/brake overhaul

also the seller of this is on vacation right now.. when he gets back i still got a ton of parts i need to pick up. new head liner, tail lights, the TBI intake, radiator assembley, complete AC, seats.. im sure im forgetting stuff. im more doing this of a resto-mod/ pro touring build then anything.

ordering a engine hoist tomorrow so i can start ripping the 350 apart, according to Microkid a gasket matched TPI will be enough to feed a ~350hp 350.

also did a VIN search and confermed it is a real T/A, and found out T/A's came with poly bushings and larger sway bars. just need springs and shocks, rear disc brakes and subframe connecters..

went back to pick up the rest of my parts to figure out i dont have a radiator and AC condenser :/

and the guy gave me firebird tail lights and seats instead of T/A ones.. heres the 2 taillights.. needless to say im gonna have my stock seats recovered and my taillights cleaned up
