Default Automatic Shifter?

hey all,
I have a 89 Camaro and it has the stupid shifter you have to press the button to go into reverse, drive etc.
Is there a way (easy) to take that off and put on a different shift handle? Maybe somthing like a hurst shifter **** type. Is there a way not having to use the stupid button.
Thanks!!!
Manny

Aside from the cheaper aftermarket shifters, all automatic shifters, factory and aftermarket, have some sort of a lockout. I wouldn't remove the lock feature (stupid button), that's what saves your trans or rearend from blowing on you when someone accidentally bumps the shifter forward while you're driving.

There is one out there, but like 69 said, it's there for a reason. The only reason I'd ever take that button out is if I put a reverse valve body in the tranny because this would switch it from being PRND321 to PRN123D and would make it nearly impossible to do damage with. I say nearly because they are not idiot proof.

But a slapstick still has a stupid lockout button or lever.

Thanks guys for the info!
I guess I will wait till the new motor and trans goes in and see what im gonna do I guess.
The slap stick is a good idea even though it still has a button etc.
I guess I dont really like the looks of the stock shifter in the car at all mostly LOL.
Thanks again.

B&M makes a rachet shifter for your car that's $200 some dollars. Console mega shifter if I'm not mistaken. There's a lever you pull up to into reverse but I don't think it's there for downshifting. If anything though, it'd look better than the stock shifter.

Funny how this changed from a $20-30 ****, to a $200 shifter!

Personally, I don't think changing the **** is gonna do much. I mean, the shifter still looks like a stick. They really should have put a shifter boot on it.

I'm in love with the B&M ratcheting shifters, I had one in my P.O.S. ford pickup and loved it. (hated the f-ing ford though)
I was lookin in summit and they have them for around $230 to include the cable.
