Default yet another problem from coolcat

hell to all the camaro enthusiast

Ok my 89 camaro rs 2.8L is having some problems with the cooling, i recently got the inspection sickers and registration so i was pretty happy that my car was legal to drive, i took it for a spin and in about 5 minutes the cars temp on the gauge was 260!!!! I took it to my cousin who owns an automechanic shop and he checked it out, we left it on idle until it reached 260 and the fan barely turned on!! i recently put a new sensor ( it's next to the manifold), and a new thermostat (190), he told me that the cars fine 'cause the engine wouldv'e been smoking and the heat would've been noticeable if you were standing next to the engine, his guess was that maybe the cooling down process is working fine and the thermostat is working, but that the gauge is messed up and giving you the wrong readings. i don't know about that, i did drive the car for like an hour with the temp gauge all the way up to 260 and the car seemed fine, i even felt the hood and it was cold (* 5 seconds after the hour cruise). What do you guys think???

Try changing the temp gauge sending unit. If it works. it is a cheap and easy fix.
