Default Will this fit? Need 2 know asap!

Guys, I might have found a set of gears for my car. The car is a 82 Camaro with a stock Posi rear. (10 bolt 7.5) Here is a cut'n'paste description:

"They fit the 7.625 also known as 7½ diameter ring gear. This includes most S & T trucks from 82 to 2005. It will also fit some rear wheel drive cars but not all. The GM part number is 14091497. They are a 3.73 gear ratio. They came out of my 2004 Chevy S truck when I changed ratios. Please do your research prior to bidding, try checking with a GM parts department for fitment if you have any doubts. Keep in mind that these are used gears and it is possible to have some noise so professional installation is recommend. Since these are used I cannot guarantee this item unless I really misrepresented it. Please contact me with any questions prior to bidding.'"

Will this fit my car?

I am going to say NO!
You have a 7.5 and in 85 the rears were updated to the 7.625 but still refered to as the 10 bolt 7.5.
His decsription is wrong about 82

Mike, you sure? Everybody I talk to says 7.5 and 7.65 are interchangable?

Well maybe they are. But the numbers tell you one is larger. Maybe you can look up a gear set for your car and one for an 85 and up in summitracing.com nad see if they show a same part number.

maybe I'm slightly confused, but he said it fits "most S & T trucks from 82 to 2005". Trucks, right? so did they change all the rearend gears at that time, for every car?

I may be wrong when I say this but I just did my rear end and the 7.5 comes with 26 spline axles and the 7.625 takes 28 splin axles so you will need to check which ones you have in your car.

7.5 & 7.625 dia ring gears are interchangeable on all 10-bolt 3rd & 4th gen cars. Now taking that same gear and pinion from a truck may not work, the length of the pinion may be different. Also I have not heard anything about that kind of swap. On another note the spline count on the axle shafts has nothing to do wiht a gear swap[sm=chairshot.gif]. My opinion would be to pass on that gear set.

Im telling you if you look at buying a 7.5 unit they will fit 26 spline axles and the 7.625 will fit 28 spline axles. 89 was the switch over years for the different size axles and center cent.
