Default Will a different rear end fit?

I have an 87 camaro. Originally a V6 car. I am planning a bracket car build up of it and have a few questions on the rear end. It currently is an open diff 7.5" 10 bolt with 26 spline axles. Not really sure if I want to spend the money to build this if another better 10 bolt will bolt up? Anyone know if an 8.5 10 boltfrom a different f body will bolt right upwithout cutting and welding any mounts or am I better off building the one I have?If it does what do I need to look for?

Thanksin advance for any help you can give. And yes I triedthe search function but didnt get what Iwas looking for!!!!

the rear end should fit and the only mods you might have is to change to drum or disc whatever you may have. just make sure that you check out the style also the newer f bodys use a different style than the third gens. keep it within the years and you should be fine

Question, what F-body car are you thinking about getting 8.5 rear from??? Reason: NO 3rd or 4th gen cars came with that rear. And if it is from a earlier gen car it will NOT WORK without major modifications.

I dont know what year the rear would come from. That was my question, I guess I wasnt clear on that. What other rear end will be better for my application and where will it come from?

Any 3rd gen rear (9-bolt or 10-bolt. 1989/92 have 28 spline axle shafts) or 4th gen rear ( note they are 4" wider overall then a 3rd gen rears) Only ratios available were 2:73, 3:08, 3:23, 3:42 and a few 3:73's 10-bolts and 2:77, 3:08. 3:27, 3:45 and some 3:70's 9-bolts. Thes complete rears are a direct bolt in with out any mods.

Thanks for the info. I dont plan on using the stock internals, I really just wanted to know what a better alternative is as opposed to whatis in the car already without spending a few thousand which would be cool but really overkill for what I am planning.

Well, Im still in the planning stages but the car is probably not going to be driven on the street at all so with just a quick glance at the Jegs catalog It looks like 4.10's, Moser Axles, C-clip eliminators, and a Spool.

Not really a dream project or actually my own. Im building it for my dad to race. Mostly because its cheap and easy. I have my own project(s) for myself.
